Stoney Creek Forge Iron Works

Stoney Creek Forge Iron Work's Mike Keeney

I have been interested in Blacksmithing from an early age. I got the opportunity to attend a class at the John Campbell Folk School in 1993. I attended three classes that year and my blacksmithing career was launched.

I have been a full time welder-fabricator for over thirty years and I think Blacksmithing is a natural progression of that trade. Although I make gates and railings, fireplace sets and iron flowers, knife making has become my passion. I was taught to forge knives, make Damascus steel and mokume by Chuck Patrick in Western North Carolina. We remain good friends to this day. For many years, I made only straight knives and primitive folders, but recently have begun to make lock back and liner lock folders. I constantly strive to improve my product and guarantee everything for life against defects in workmanship. This guarantee does not cover breakage due to throwing, prying, hammering or twisting the blade. Natural handle materials, such as exotic woods and bone, may expand or shrink due to humidity changes, this is a natural occurrence and does not constitute a defect.

Each knife is completely hand made by me using high carbon steel, my own Damascus and that of others for blades, titanium and nickel for liners and bolsters, and premium woods and bone for handle scales. All materials used are hand picked from the best materials available.
